Hi Steve I’m a Berkeley 2012 MBA/MPH. I’m furious if in that postwar era, government funding made up a very large percentage of total spending on science, technology, and innovation (STI), especially compared to private sector investment. Today, with the rise of venture capital and significant private sector involvement in STI, has there been a measurable shift? Do you have any estimates on what percentage of total U.S. STI investment today comes from government sources versus private sources? It would be interesting to see how that balance has evolved — and what the implications might be.
