This is relevant now with AI startups and incumbents. Have your strategy or die. IOW, focus on the application layers.

For current industries or new market categories:

-Identify your problem-solution fit. Make sure it's unique.

-Have deep knowledge of your customers, data, business, and market. Leverage it.

- Have a Trojan horse strategy in your market category.

- Have and own a patent family asset. Build a total IP strategy. Including brand, trademarks, and trade secrets. This is power.

-Craft a smart embedding strategy that's tied to infrastructure.

-Identify and protect your unfair competitive advantages. Have an ocean view moat.

-Develop channel partner relationships with iconic brands and influencers.

-Anticipate what the incumbents will do when you strike.
